In this video, Brian shares the steps he took to become more expressive and comfortable “being seen.” He shares exercises that you can use to become more expressive and to increase your tension skills a little bit each time without overwhelming yourself.

A lot of students come to us at varying degrees of either numbed out and apathetic energy, or just plain playing small because of fears around playing bigger and being more expressive.

Especially in the case of more fear-based playing small (apathy usually has fear underneath it, too though, because it’s a numbing out of heavy emotions you or your subconscious don’t want to feel and face), it’s related to a fear of being seen. Being seen by others, especially in public, and especially while expressing yourself.

Imagine walking around in a busy park singing at the top of your lungs so everyone can hear you.

Or walking over to talk to a woman you find attractive in a very public place with lots of people watching and listening.

Do either of those scenarios make you really uncomfortable? That’s a fear of being seen, and those fears can cause you to play small in situations where you feel seen (or like you might be about to be seen)…and often, throughout your entire daily life. It can really slow down your growth, rob you of various opportunities you’d jump at if you weren’t afraid of being seen, make you not say or do the things you really want to, affect all your interactions and connections with people, and just not make you feel as fulfilled or fully alive.

That’s why we have clients do expression work like the 100 Hellos to break through their fears of being seen and become more expressive.

So watch the video, take some notes, and start practicing the exercises Brian suggests in the video.
